The Guy's For You !

Arthur Guy established Guy’s Garage in the late 1960s at Gateside Farm (now Gateside Commerce Park) before moving to the building now known as the Jet Service Station.  Arthur ran the one-man business at the above premises until the need to expand prompted a move to St. Martin’s Gate, opposite the Old Tannery, and later a final move to Peppercraig Quarry, where the business continues to thrive in the hands of Ronnie and Craig Golightly.

As the business prospered and expanded, Arthur employed local mechanics - Jimmy Hunter, Brian Bisset and Ronnie Golightly all joined the business at St. Martin’s Gate.  Ronnie later joined the Fire Service where he served for 35 years, while Jimmy and Brian remained, ultimately taking over the business when Arthur retired which they ran for many years until the premature retirement of Jimmy due to ill health.

Ronnie’s son Craig joined the motor trade on leaving school and served an apprenticeship with Inverleith Garages Ltd in Dunbar, East Lothian’s leading Rover dealership at the time. Craig later joined Brian and Jimmy at Guy’s as a mechanic and then as a partner when Jimmy retired. When Brian retired in 2007 Craig employed Peter McGillivery a local mechanic from Gifford. The business then came full circle when Ronnie, having retired from the Fire Service, rejoined Guys as a business manager where he now works alongside his son.

Guy’s long established reputation for high standards and friendly service attracts customers from all over East Lothian and beyond.  On offer is everything from full servicing and repairs to diagnostics, spares for all diesel and petrol vehicles (private and commercial) and MOT facilities – the latter housed within a new hi tech MOT Test Centre.

Being a local family business Guy’s continues to strive to provide the best possible service to old and new customers.  They provide a collection and delivery service on request and endeavour to keep up to date with the latest technological developments. As the motor trade is continually changing and evolving the garage always has the latest updated diagnostic equipment to enable them to quickly identify and repair faults efficiently and effectively.

Always looking for new ways to enhance service, Guy’s will shortly be opening a new reception area that will also serve as a sales point for car accessories - oils, anti-freeze, car shampoo and polishes, bulbs, batteries, wiper blades etc.

Ronnie and Craig and the staff at Guy’s Garage look forward to being of assistance to you in the future and would like to thank existing customers for their continued support of a local business.
