Woodwork has fascinated John Stanton from an early age, so there was never any doubt the Musselburgh lad would grow up to be a joiner. John served his apprenticeship with H.M Raitt & Sons and later undertook an advanced joinery course.

With his training finished, John went to work for CALA Homes, however building kit houses gave little free reign to a craftsman’s imagination. Neither did it play to his main skills, designing and creating bespoke kitchens. In 2008 he decided to take a leap of faith and start up in business as a sole trader, which is when JS Joinery came into being.

John sets exceptionally high standards on his work and has all trade back up – many of the tradesmen he uses he has known from school days – to be able to provide a complete service from start to finish throughout Edinburgh and Lothians. Estimates are free and more importantly, he stays with a job until it is complete to the client’s satisfaction – unlike some tradesmen who may be tempted away by the promise of something bigger and better before an existing job is finished.

Laminate and hardwood flooring can be done on a supply and fit basis, or fit only and materials are sourced from reputable companies such as Howdens, Magnet and GDK.

Kitchens are his main passion. A kitchen is the hub of the home – it’s also the room that sells a house more than any other, so having a kitchen that’s both functional and beautiful is a good investment. John works closely with a client to ensure the final design incorporates every feature on their wish list - using 3-D CAD (computer aided design) plans in colour to create a virtual kitchen before work begins on the real thing. After that, he will liase with other trades as necessary to ensure the project runs smoothly and is personally supervised at every stage from start through to completion.

JS Joinery also undertakes house renovations, particularly those that involve careful planning to make more effective use of space, again using state-of-the-art design technology to make your ideas a reality.
