1. What’s the best thing about being in East Lothian? You have got all the space you need and marvellous little communities. Also, you are not far from the big city vibe of Edinburgh or international airports. You are always close to the sea, the hills and deserted pathways. 2. What would you change about East Lothian? My big gripe is that there is not enough to do at night and one of the things it desperately needs is a revamped Corn Exchange in Haddington. Still maintaining the integrity of a listed building but developing so it could sustain theatre production, cinema and live music. 3. Where is your favourite place in East Lothian to escape to? The John Muir Country Park, just walking there, or on the top of Traprain Law. 4. Where is the best place to eat in East Lothian? The Rocks in Dunbar, run by the enigmatic Jimmy Findlay. 5. What is your earliest memory of East Lothian? A Sunday School trip when I was living in Dalkeith and we came down to Haddington, I remember having a picnic by the Waterloo Bridge - I must have been about seven or eight. I can also remember being in a caravan in Dunbar listening to the Beatles on the radio, aged about eight or nine. 6. Who are East Lothian’s heroes? The lifeboat crews at North Berwick and Dunbar. 8, What puts a smile on your face? Looking back at my life wondering how the hell I managed to still be here! 9. What are you most proud of? My daughter Tara. Like me, she is a survivor. 10. Use one word to describe East Lothian? Home. |
