Carol Kidd , Scotland's first lady of jazz and once described by Frank Sinatra as "the best kept secret of British jazz", opens the festivities on Thursday 12 August. Renowned for her impeccable phrasing and distinctive delivery, she will be joined by her guitarist Nigel Clark as she breathes fresh life into jazz standards. Popular cabaret singing star Tony Jacobs returns to Brunton Theatre to perform a marathon medley of Sinatra hits and to celebrate the music of Bing Crosby, Cole Porter and Irving Berlin, among many others (Friday 13 August); and the hardest swinging band in the UK, the Moonlight Serenade Orchestra UK, invite audiences to an evening of nostalgia and sheer fun as they perform a selection music by Count Basie, Artie Shaw and Glen Miller (Wednesday 25 August).East Lothian-based band The Simple Touch will support Skerryvore on Saturday 14 August. With their outstanding musicianship and mesmerising voice of Alec Dalglish, Skerryvore have been a recent highlight at many Celtic festivals around the world as blazing bagpipes, fiddles and accordions are electrically fused with funky rhythms and soul-gripping sounds combine to create a trad-rock fusion for the 21st century! Folk fans can also enjoy Blueflint (Thursday 26 August): with their trademark twin banjo bluegrass sound and crisp vocals, lovely melodies and tuneful harmonies abound. Also on the bill is MacFloyd (Saturday 28 August) who will perform over two hours of Pink Floyd classics, complete with the obligatory lights and lasers bonanza; and Brenda Cochrane who stars in Just For Joe (Saturday 21 August). Scripted by comedienne Elaine C Smith, with music by Kennedy Aitchison and Alan McPike, and directed by West End director Nigel West (Chicago), this is a genuine, honest and often very funny one-woman account of a singer's life. Following successful performances during last year’s Fringe programme, Brunton Theatre is also delighted to welcome back Simon Thacker and his acclaimed ensemble Camerata Ritmata along with special guest star Daisy Chute (All Angels) to perform a dazzlingly varied selection of music featuring fiery instrumental showpieces and passionate world song (Friday 20 August); Main Street Blues and their powerful mix of classic blues, jazz and funk influences (Friday 27 August); and Scotland's award winning folk group Blazin' Fiddles for two nights of fiery fiddle music (Wednesday 18 & Thursday 19 August). All tickets are £14.50(£12.50) and are available now from Brunton Theatre Box Office on 0131 665 2240 or online at www.bruntontheatre.co.uk
