East Lothian Council has put together an extensive range of activities to keep everyone busy over the holiday period, including a feast of arts activities for young people that have been organised by East Lothian Council’s Arts Service.

A range of arts activities for all age groups will take place in a wide variety of locations across East Lothian from Monday 11 July until Tuesday 9 August. With activities ranging from glass painting, recreating the hit songs of the TV show Glee, dance classes for parents and babies or workshops in puppet making, there’s sure to be something to appeal to everyone.

Other activities on offer include:

Aye Write – young writers are invited to share the mystery, excitement, humour and fantasy of their own writing with others in these fun and inspiring writing workshops

Make a Hot Air Balloon – a fun activity for all the family making a hot air balloon using household materials and simple technology, with a countdown to the test launch on the day

Music Madness – a chance to explore a range of musical instruments, create an original composition and perform it as an ensemble led by professional musician Gordon Turnbull

There will also be an open-air performance of Twelfth Night by Quantum Theatre on Saturday 30 July at 7.30pm in the Lodge Grounds at North Berwick. This accessible version of Shakespeare’s classic comedy, with its comic mix-ups over mistaken identities, is suitable for family audiences. Tickets for Twelfth Night are £9 (£6) and are available from Brunton Theatre Box Office on 0131 665 2240 or online at www.bruntontheatre.co.uk

Full details of what’s on this summer can be found in the Summer Activities brochure that has been distributed to every school pupil in East Lothian and around the county or at www.eastlothian.gov.uk.
